We investigate the generation and evolution of switchbacks (SBs), the nature of the sub-Alfv\ enic wind observed by the Parker Solar Probe (PSP), and the morphology of the Alfv\ enic transition, all of which are key issues in solar wind research. During its 10th orbit around the Sun, the Parker Solar Probe sampled two intervals where the local Alfv\ en speed exceeded the solar wind speed, lasting more than 10 hours in total. In this paper, we analyze the turbulence and wave properties during these periods. The turbulence is observed to be Alfv\ enic and unbalanced, dominated by outward-propagating modes. Triggered Ion-acoustic Waves in the Solar Wind For more than 12 hr beginning on 2021 January 18, continuous narrowband electrostatic emissions were observed on the Parker Solar Probe near 20 solar radii. The observed <1000 Hz frequencies were well below the local ion-plasma frequency. Surprisingly, the emissions consisted of electrostatic wave packets with shock- like envelopes, appearing repetitively at a \raisebox-0.5ex\textasciitilde1.5 Hz rate. The magnetic switchbacks observed recently by the Parker Solar Probe have raised the question about their nature and origin. Switchbacks Explained: Super-Parker Fields—The Other Side of the Sub-Parker Spiral We provide a simple geometric explanation for the source of switchbacks and associated large and one-sided transverse flows in the solar wind observed by the Parker Solar Probe (PSP). The Origin of Switchbacks in the Solar Corona: Linear Theory The origin, structure, and propagation characteristics of a switchback are compelling questions posed by Parker Solar Probe (PSP) observations of velocity spikes and magnetic field reversals.
