Magnetic Reconnection as the Driver of the Solar Wind We present EUV solar observations showing evidence for omnipresent jetting activity driven by small-scale magnetic reconnection at the base of the solar corona. We argue that the physical mechanism that heats and drives the solar wind at its source is ubiquitous magnetic reconnection in the form of small-scale jetting activity (a.k.a. jetlets). This jetting activity, like the solar wind and the heating of the coronal plasma, is ubiquitous regardless of the solar cycle phase. Each event arises from small-scale reconnection of ... Scaling Anisotropy with Stationary Background Field in Near-Sun Solar Wind Turbulence The scaling of magnetic fluctuations provides crucial information for the understanding of solar wind turbulence. However, the observed magnetic fluctuations contain not only turbulence but also magnetic structures, leading to the violation of time stationarity. This violation would conceal the true scaling and influence the determination of the sampling angle with respect to the local background magnetic field. Here, to investigate scaling anisotropy, we utilize a simple but effective criterion \ensuremath\phi < 10\textdegr ... The transport of energetic charged particles (e.g., cosmic rays) in turbulent magnetic fields is usually characterized in terms of the diffusion parallel and perpendicular to a large-scale (or mean) magnetic field. The nonlinear guiding center theory has been a prominent perpendicular diffusion theory. A recent version of this theory, based on the random ballistic spreading of magnetic field lines and a backtracking correction (RBD/BC), has shown good agreement with test particle simulations for a two-component magnetic turb ... At the end of 2020 September, the Parker Solar Probe (PSP) and BepiColombo were radially aligned: PSP was orbiting near 0.17 au and BepiColombo near 0.6 au. This geometry is of particular interest for investigating the evolution of solar wind properties at different heliocentric distances by observing the same solar wind plasma parcels. In this work, we use the magnetic field observations from both spacecraft to characterize both the topology of the magnetic field at different heliocentric distances (scalings, high-order sta ... Geometry of Magnetic Fluctuations near the Sun from the Parker Solar Probe Solar wind magnetic fluctuations exhibit anisotropy due to the presence of a mean magnetic field in the form of the Parker spiral. Close to the Sun, direct measurements were not available until the recently launched Parker Solar Probe (PSP) mission. The nature of the anisotropy and geometry of the magnetic fluctuations play a fundamental role in dissipation processes and in the transport of energetic particles in space. Using PSP data, we present measurements of the geometry and anisotropy of the inner heliosphere magnetic f ...
