Prior observations of the near-Sun solar wind (sunward of 0.25 au) identified frequent, intense plasma waves near the local electron cyclotron frequency (f $_ce$), and its harmonics. In this Letter, it is shown that near-f $_ce$ wave properties are consistent with generation via interaction between the observing spacecraft s ion wake and the ambient plasma and magnetic fields. This result implies that many observed near-f $_ce$ waves are not intrinsic to the unobstructed solar wind flow, and therefore are unlikely to play a ... Clouds of Spacecraft Debris Liberated by Hypervelocity Dust Impacts on Parker Solar Probe Hypervelocity impacts on spacecraft surfaces produce a wide range of effects including transient plasma clouds, surface material ablation, and for some impacts, the liberation of spacecraft material as debris clouds. This study examines debris-producing impacts on the Parker Solar Probe spacecraft as it traverses the densest part of the zodiacal cloud: the inner heliosphere. Hypervelocity impacts by interplanetary dust grains on the spacecraft that produce debris clouds are identified and examined. Impact-generated plasma an ...
