Theory and previous space missions indicate there are several populations of zodiacal dust. The most prominent populations are grains on bound elliptic orbits (\ensuremath\alpha-meteoroids), and \ensuremath\beta-meteoroids on hyperbolic escape trajectories governed largely by their size and composition.
