Two Correlations with Enhancement Near the Proton Gyroradius Scale in Solar Wind Turbulence: Parker Solar Probe (PSP) and Wind Observations

Based on the Parker Solar Probe mission, this paper presents the observations of two correlations in solar wind turbulence near the Sun for the first time, demonstrating the clear existence of the following two correlations. One is positive correlation between the proton temperature and turbulent magnetic energy density. The other is negative correlation between the spectral index and magnetic helicity. It is found that the former correlation has a maximum correlation coefficient (CC) at the wavenumber k \ensuremath\rho $_ p ...

A Provably Positive, Divergence-free Constrained Transport Scheme for the Simulation of Solar Wind

In this paper, we present a provably positive, divergence-free constrained transport (CT) scheme to simulate the steady-state solar wind ambient with the three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamics numerical model. The positivity can be lost in two ways: one way is in the reconstruction process, and the other is in the updating process when the variables are advanced to the next time step. We adopt a self-adjusting strategy to bring the density and pressure into the permitted range in the reconstruction process, and use modified ...

Prospective White-light Imaging and In Situ Measurements of Quiescent Large-scale Solar-wind Streams from the Parker Solar Probe and Solar Orbiter

Deep-space exploration of the inner heliosphere is in an unprecedented golden age, with the recent and forthcoming launches of the Parker Solar Probe (PSP) and Solar Orbiter (SolO) missions, respectively. In order to both predict and understand the prospective observations by PSP and SolO, we perform forward MHD modeling of the 3D inner heliosphere at solar minimum, and synthesize the white-light (WL) emission that would result from Thomson scattering of sunlight from the coronal and heliospheric plasmas. Both solar rotat ...
