The solar wind in the inner heliosphere has been observed by Parker Solar Probe (PSP) to exhibit abundant wave activities. The cyclotron wave modes responding to ions or electrons are among the most crucial wave components. However, their origin and evolution in the inner heliosphere close to the Sun remains a mystery. Specifically, it remains unknown whether it is an emitted signal from the solar atmosphere or an eigenmode growing locally in the heliosphere due to plasma instability. To address and resolve this controversy, ... Solar Origin of Compressive Alfv\ enic Spikes/Kinks as Observed by Parker Solar Probe The solar wind is found by the Parker Solar Probe to be abundant with Alfv\ enic velocity spikes and magnetic field kinks. Temperature enhancement is another remarkable feature associated with the Alfv\ enic spikes. How the prototype of these coincident phenomena is generated intermittently in the source region is an important and wide-ranging subject. Here we propose a new model introducing guide-field discontinuity into the interchange magnetic reconnection between open funnels and closed loops with different magnetic heli ... Anisotropy of Solar Wind Turbulence in the Inner Heliosphere at Kinetic Scales: PSP Observations The anisotropy of solar wind turbulence is a critical issue in understanding the physics of energy transfer between scales and energy conversion between fields and particles in the heliosphere. Using the measurement of Parker Solar Probe (PSP), we present an observation of the anisotropy at kinetic scales in the slow, Alfv\ enic, solar wind in the inner heliosphere. The magnetic compressibility behaves as expected for kinetic Alfv\ enic turbulence below the ion scale. A steepened transition range is found between the inertia ... The Parker Solar Probe (PSP) aims to explore the nascent solar wind close to the Sun. Meanwhile, PSP is also expected to encounter small objects like comets and asteroids. In this work, we survey the ephemerides to find the chance of a recent encounter and then model the interaction between released dusty plasmas and solar wind plasmas. On 2019 September 2, a comet-like object, the 322P/Solar and Heliosphere Observatory, just passed its perihelion flying to a heliocentric distance of 0.12 au and swept by PSP at a relative di ... Turbulence, a ubiquitous phenomenon in interplanetary space, is crucial for the energy conversion of space plasma at multiple scales. This work focuses on the propagation, polarization, and wave composition properties of the\ solar\ wind turbulence within 0.3 au, and its variation with heliocentric distance at magnetohydrodynamic scales (from 10 s to 1000 s in the spacecraft frame). We present the probability density function of propagation wavevectors (PDF (k(parallel to),k)) for\ solar\ wind turbulen ... Constraining Ion-Scale Heating and Spectral Energy Transfer in Observations of Plasma Turbulence We perform a statistical study of the turbulent power spectrum at inertial and kinetic scales observed during the first perihelion encounter of the Parker Solar Probe. We find that often there is an extremely steep scaling range of the power spectrum just above the ion-kinetic scales, similar to prior observations at 1 A.U., with a power-law index of around -4 . Based on our measurements, we demonstrate that either a significant (\>50 \%) fraction of the total turbulent energy flux is dissipated in this range of scales ... Magnetic field fluctuations in the solar wind are commonly observed to follow a power-law spectrum. Near proton-kinetic scales, a spectral break occurs that is commonly interpreted as a transition to kinetic turbulence. However, this transition is not yet entirely understood. By studying the scaling of the break with various plasma properties, it may be possible to constrain the processes leading to the onset of kinetic turbulence. Using data from the Parker Solar Probe, we measure the proton-scale break over a range of h ...
